Hone is a descendant of Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao, Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāti Porou. Hone is the founding director of Engaging Well Limited, a national consultancy that provides education and training in Cultural Intelligence, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Tikanga in the Law and Te Reo me ngā Tikanga across both government and private sectors.
Outside work, Hone enjoys studying mōteatea (archaic poetry), whakapapa (genealogy) and music. He is a singer/composer and playwright and was opera trained at an early age appearing in his first operatic performance when he was 14 years old. Hone has 4 adult children and 3 mokopuna and values whānau dearly.
Chris is a Gamillaroi man and the first Indigenous dentist in Australia. With an extensive career in public and private practice, Dr Bourke helped establish the Indigenous Dentists’ Association of Australia and was its inaugural President. In 2011 he was elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly, the first Indigenous representative, and held various ministerial portfolios.
Chris currently leads Indigenous Science and Engagement at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency. He also serves as a Member of the ACT Voluntary Assisted Dying Oversight Board, and is on the Board of the Australian Dental Council. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, a member of the Australian Dental Association, an Honorary Professor at Macquarie University and an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne.
Liam White is a proud Kuku Yalanji man, born in Mossman, Far North Queensland. Raised in remote Aboriginal communities and regional areas, his background drives his deep commitment to improving oral health outcomes in underserved and rural parts of Australia.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from James Cook University in 2020, Liam practiced private dentistry regionally before entering specialist training. He is currently a first-year prosthodontics resident at the University of Queensland, where he hopes to take these skills to underserved areas upon finishing.
He will be speaking about dentine bonding and occlusion. Normally the kind of topic that sends half the room reaching for their phones. Not this time. Dr Liam White has a rare gift: making the stuff everyone nods along to but secretly zones out on actually land. Expect real clinical insight, the kind that changes how you approach your next restoration, delivered with enough wit that you won’t be checking the clock. Bronwyn White is a Burramatta woman of the Darug Nation living and working on Awabakal Country. She is an Oral Health Therapist and founder of Smiles on Wheels, a mobile oral health service delivering preventive dental care across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. With over 20 years’ clinical and teaching experience in private practice, universities, and TAFE, she is passionate about improving access to care for patients who face barriers attending traditional clinics. Her work supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, older adults, people living with disability, veterans, and those with complex or palliative care needs. She is also the creator of Brusharoo, a children’s oral health education program focused on prevention and early habits.
Distinguished Professor Yin Paradies is a Wakaya man and Chair in Race Relations at Deakin University where he conducts research on racism, anti-racism, cultural safety, Indigenous knowledges and decolonisation. He has authored more than 280 publications (cited over 27,000 times), been awarded grants worth $101 million and is an invited reviewer for more than 130 journals.
Tachae Douglas-Miller is a proud Ngunnawal woman, dentist and medical student with a strong interest in Indigenous health and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Tachae graduated from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) in 2025 and was selected as Valedictorian for UQ’s Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences. She now works as a dentist while undertaking the Doctor of Medicine at UQ, with the hope of one day pursuing specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Throughout her studies, Tachae has been involved in Indigenous student advocacy. She has served as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Representative within the School of Dentistry, as Co-Goorie Officer, and as an Indigenous Student Storyteller within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences. She has also been involved in UQ initiatives aimed at encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to consider university and careers in health, including featuring in UQ’s You Belong Here campaign.
Her honours research, Deadly Dental Home, was undertaken in partnership with Metro North Oral Health Services and explored the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients accessing public dental care. This work strengthened her interest in culturally safe, patient-centred healthcare and in understanding how health services can better respond to the needs and experiences of Indigenous patients.
Tachae is passionate about improving the care and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the health system. As she continues her training across dentistry and medicine, she hopes to contribute to more culturally safe and accessible healthcare, while continuing to learn from the communities, clinicians and patients around her.
Dr Gari Watson is a Gurang Gurang, Biri Gubba and Gangulu man. He is a general practicing dentist and past President of the Indigenous Dental Association of Australia. He is currently in his third year of studying medicine at the University of Queensland.
