The Indigenous Dental Association Australia (IDAA), formerly Indigenous Dentists’ Association Australia, is a not-for-profit professional association. We are the peak body for Indigenous dental health in Australia supporting First Nations Australian oral health students and practitioners. The IDAA welcomes to its membership all First Nations Australian dental practitioners including dentists, oral health therapists, hygienists and dental prosthetists.
We create opportunities for connection with Indigenous dental practitioners and students across the country. We want to make a real difference to improve oral health outcomes for Indigenous people throughout Australia, knowing that change will come with more of us working for this common goal together.
Oral health outcomes for First Nations Australians are improved with the provision of culturally safe oral health care and through strengthened connections between First Nations Australian dental healthcare providers across the nation
Advocate and represent issues that impact First Nations people and oral health outcomes.
Strengthen the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the oral health workforce and in dental university courses.
Encourage non-indigenous health practitioners to understand the history and oppression that affects First Nations people and their health outcomes.
Regularly revise what it means to provide culturally safe oral health care for all people, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Remind non-indigenous Australians that a treaty is imperative for genuine health improvement and gap closure.
